South Kent - the largest wind farm in Canada, was formally commissioned today.

Just a couple of months after Ontario announced that it had become the first jurisdiction in North America to phase out coal use, it kicks off Canada's largest wind farm.

The $650 million project consists of 124 turbines which will together generate enough electricity for about 100,000 homes or, to put it another way, this one development will produce about 0.5 percent of Ontario's total electricity requirements.

During construction the project employed 500 workers and, during its 25-year life, will employ 20 full-time staff who will work on operations and maintenance.
