Every year the European Wind Energy Association produces the highly informative 'Wind in Power' which is a compendium of key European wind data. The following graphic is taken from the January 2016 release (page 8) which shows the change in installed electricity generating capacity in the EU for the period 2000 to 2015.
The data indicate that, in this 16-year time period, there has been a startling shift in Europe's electricity generation capacity. Most notable is that renewables represent 87 percent of net capacity additions. Also of note is the marked transition away from oil, coal and nuclear.
